I’m Wendy, aka “Elementary Library Mama” and I’m so glad you stopped by! I live in the Midwest and have been a certified elementary librarian for 20+ years. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education and a Master of Arts in Library Information Science. Prior to becoming a librarian, I taught second and third grades. During my education career, I was honored to be nominated for district elementary teacher of the year. I have also served as the elementary department head for my school district’s library program as well as my school’s union rep for our education association.
I’m married to my college sweetheart and we are the proud parents of one son, two daughters and a golden retriever “fur baby”. When my children were little, they always called me “Mama” instead of “Mommy”. I am so blessed to be a Mama that I wanted to incorporate this word into my blog title. Thus, Elementary Library Mama was born!
Obviously, I am a strong believer in the importance of school libraries and librarians/media specialists. School library media specialists are first and foremost, TEACHERS. We constantly strive to be knowledgeable in literature trends, curriculum, and the latest technology. We provide a nurturing environment where students can come to pursue their own reading interests and learn critical information literacy skills. We really are the “heart” of the school!
I started my TeachersPayTeachers store to focus on creating quality lessons and resources that help you save planning time and keep your students engaged and in love with reading and learning. I have created a Full Year K-5 Library Curriculum for elementary librarians who need lesson ideas that include literature appreciation, digital citizenship, research skills, along with some STEM and Makerspace ideas sprinkled in. Hopefully, these resources will allow you to dedicate more time to assist your students and staff, in addition to those daily library administrative tasks that come with our job.
